Potty Training Year Round

Parents often wonder, when is the best time to potty train? Usually, it is summer. It is warm out, your child may be eating popsicles and drinking lots of liquids because of warmer weather so they may have the urge to go more often.

Summer Time
Many children love the summer time, because it is hot and they get to run in sprinklers and take a dip in the pool. Babies are sometimes bare bottomed at the beach, bring along the potty chair, and shield them with the umbrella. In the privacy of your own backyard put your small children in easy to pull up and down swimsuits and shorts, when they have to go, let them pick a spot in the garden, turn their back to you and go. It works.

Swimming
Do not let your child go into the pool without a swim diaper until you are completely confident in their training abilities. It is better to air on the side of caution when it comes to accidents that could spread E. Coli. Always put babies into swim diapers too, it will be more comfortable and you will not have to worry about it bursting.

Travel
When going to hotels bring along rubber sheet or mattress protector. This is a necessity if the child has frequent accidents. Even if there have been no accidents, a trip to a hotel no matter the time of year, can cause unexpected accidents. Bring along a potty chair if going to outdoor fairs, and for the car. If the child has to go, he has to go. You may need to make a quick stop on a road and let them use the potty chair. You can line with a diaper or plastic bag for easier clean up. For boys, if you are really in a pinch and on the road, have him pee into a bottle or jar. Make sure it has a lid and wrap it in a plastic bad until you can dispose. When flying you can put your not-fully-trained child into a pull up to make sure there are no accidents on the seat.

Relax
The best thing to do is be patient. You can become frustrated and so can your child. Be consistent, do not switch back and forth between diapers, pull-ups and potty, it will confuse and can stop the process.
