New Dads Parenting Tips

So, you are going to be a father? And it's your first? That's great! There are many things you might worry about, such as will I feel an instant bond with my baby? Am I doing this right? Or what am I supposed to do when the baby cries? These are normal questions.

Baby Steps
You are already on the right track to being a good dad, because you are trying to figure out if you will be a good dad! First, you should accompany your partner, wife, girlfriend or lover to her doctor's appointments and let her know you want to be the best dad you can be. Many women worry if a man will actually be there for her and if the dad will be a hands-on dad. When you first hold that little one, studies show that the first thing men do is try to look for physical similarities on the child. Does she have my nose? Does he have my chin? You might notice something right away and you might not. That doesn't mean the baby is not yours and it doesn't mean that in a few years they won't look just like you.

Bonding and Doing Things Right
Women are often considered the more nurturing sex. This is not necessarily true. You might feel a love-at-first-sight bonding, or might not. During the first six weeks your baby might not give you any signs that you're doing anything right, or wrong. Most of the time the baby is going to cry and be adjusting to this new world. Pay close attention though. If you notice he will fall asleep on your chest he likes and trusts you.

Crying
If you don't already know this, babies cry a lot. You're going to need to get used to it. It is their way of communicating. It is the only way they know how to say feed me, change me, hold me, etc. When she cries do not pass her off to someone else. Just try and hold her more. Try holding your baby in different ways, if you notice she likes on way better, keep her that way just always make sure you support her neck. You can also give the baby a bath, as many babies love warm water. Just remember little babies are slippery when wet, so be careful!
