Great Tips For Potty Training

Do you simply need some extra tips on effectively potty training, because nothing seems to be working? Well here are just a few more tips that might be your answer.

Get Potty Books
As an incentive to encourage reading, and using the potty all in one, take your child to the bookstore or library and pick out 2 to 3 books. You can even make one of them a potty book. They can also be ones with noises and buttons to keep her entertained. The only catch is, she has to read them in the potty. You might find she wants to sit on the potty for a lot longer than expected with this trick.

Potty Journals
If you notice your child is having a really difficult time with potty training, make a journal and write down all things potty training related, when he does well, when he has accidents. You can see if there are patterns after certain foods, or times of the day. Let him get involved by drawing a star or happy face next to a good day!

Get Them Clean
If your child has a potty accident make sure they are completely cleaned off. The child is often embarrassed, so you want to get the accident off of them as soon as possible. Carry baby wipes and an extra pair of pants, just in case. Wipe them completely off. If you are at home, especially for stool accidents, have them get into the tub and wash their legs and everything quickly but thoroughly.

Boys and Girls
Boys and girls obviously need to be taught different things while potty training. Girls need to be taught that wiping from front to back is the only way, and to dap or pat the front area as opposed to wiping which can cause irritation. Boys need to clean the seat with toilet paper when they miss, and teach them young to put the seat up and down. Always have them wash their hands with soap and water.

Keep Everything Clean
Make sure you also wash your hands thoroughly. If in public teach them to get a paper towel to turn off handles and use on doors. At home, keep disinfectant handy. There will be accidents, especially when using a potty chair. You want the child to be comfortable, so keep everything they touch clean.
